Tottenham have re-entered into talks with Fiorentina for defender Nikola Milenkovic, who came close to joining West Ham recently.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are interested in signing Nikola Milenkovic as their search for a versatile defender continues. Spurs have seemingly re-opened talks with Fiorentina after failing to reach an agreement with Bologna for Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tottenham have requirements in multiple areas and are looking at various players to fill the gaps. They are still in the market for a top draw striker irrespective of Harry Kane leaving, while also looking for more defensive options despite making headway earlier.

Spurs shave already signed Cristian Romero on loan with a buy option from Atalanta and have been looking at another player to add to their squad. Takehiro Tomiyasu of Bologna had been linked throughout the summer, but talks have somewhat stalled for the Japanese international in the past few days.

The Premier League side have turned their attention towards 23-year-old Serbia international Nikola Milenkovic to solve their defensive issues. Spurs want a player who can play centre-back and a right-back, while Tomiyasu fit the bill; Milenkovic is capable of playing those roles as well.

The Serbian has only a year left on his Fiorentina deal, meaning they could sign him in a cut-price move. He could be even cheaper than Tomiyasu, who was reportedly valued at £17 million. Moreover, Milenkovic holds more experience under his belt and has proven his pedigree in Serie A, with a total of 121 appearances in the Italian top flight.

Tottenham will also have to deal with the futures of their defenders. Toby Alderweireld has already left for Qatar, while they are looking to offload Colombian Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier before the transfer deadline.

There have been no offers forthcoming so far, but Spurs believe they might be able to sell before the end of the month. Either way, technical director Fabio Paratici will look to sign Milenkovic immediately, as the club believes terms would not be a problem with either the player or Fiorentina.

Milenkovic was heavily linked with a move to West Ham United, but talks with the London side have seemingly broken down. The Hammers are not expected to come back onto the table for the defender and might look at alternate options.

Tottenham are also looking at Fiorentina’s forward, Dusan Vlahovic, although they face tough competition from Arsenal and La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. As for Milenkovic, a deal can be wrapped up soon, and Spurs will have a decent player on their hands.
