Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move for AS Monaco’s French midfield prodigy Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also a target for Juventus.
According to a report from Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are showing considerable interest in AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also being pursued by Italian giants Juventus.
Tchouameni came through the youth ranks at French club Bordeaux and made his senior debut in 2018, at the age of eighteen. After going on to make 37 appearances for the club, the 21-year-old midfielder was snapped up by AS Monaco in January 2020 and he has made rapid strides with the Principality outfit.
Tchouameni has racked up 47 appearances for Monaco, scoring and assisting four goals apiece, firmly establishing himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park for Niko Kovac’s side.
The young midfielder’s progress at Stade Louis II hasn’t gone unnoticed as there has been interest from UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in the recent past. Now, Liverpool have also entered the fray for the signing of the 21-year-old youngster who has four caps for the French Under-21 side.
It is no secret at this point in time that the Merseyside giants are in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park. The departure of Georginio Wijnaldum has left a massive void within the side while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also be on his way out this summer, amid strong interest from boyhood club Southampton.
With Naby Keita still not convincing three years into his stint at Anfield and James Milner not getting any younger, it becomes important that Liverpool rope in a new central midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
Numerous names like Renato Sanches, Houssem Aouar and Saul Niguez has been linked with a move to Anfield of late, with Tchouameni the latest player to have emerged on the radars of Jurgen Klopp & co. However, signing the 21-year-old French prodigy will not be straightforward for Liverpool as Serie A bigwigs Juventus are also keen on taking him on.
Tchouameni is contracted with Monaco till the summer of 2024. However, given the financial problems that all Ligue 1 clubs, barring PSG, are going through, they may be forced to cash in, with the report claiming that the midfielder is valued at around €30 million. It now remains to be seen if Liverpool end up launching a move for the youngster or look at other options to strengthen their engine room.
