Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation of Torino striker Andrea Belotti who is widely expected to leave the Serie A club this summer.
According to a report from the print edition of Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Torino and Italy striker Andrea Belotti and are monitoring his situation with a keen eye.
The 27-year-old Belotti has grown into one of the most consistent goalscorers in Serie A since his move to Torino from Palermo back in 2015. To date, the Italian centre-forward has plundered 105 goals and set up 26 more for his teammates from 228 appearances for the Granata, even being elevated to the status of the club captain in recent seasons.
However, Belotti has entered the final year of his contract with the Serie A outfit and has been heavily linked with a move away. Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg are already said to have made an offer of €30 million for the 27-year-old while La Liga outfit Sevilla are also watching him. And, now, Tottenham Hotspur, too, have entered the fray for the Italian international.
It is not the first time that Spurs have been linked with Belotti, with the north London club having made an attempt to sign him when Jose Mourinho was still in charge at the club. And they may make another attempt to bring Il Gallo to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season as the situation concerning Harry Kane continues to unravel.
The England captain has not returned to pre-season training with Tottenham, reportedly in a bid to force a move to Manchester City. Irrespective of whether that is true or not, the 28-year-old continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League champions and may end up departing this summer.
Even if he does stay, Tottenham have no viable backup for the Englishman in the No. 9 role apart from young Dane Scarlett. While both Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min have played through the middle in the past when Kane has been injured, neither player is a natural in the position, which is something that manager Nuno Espirito Santo must address.
A move for Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic has been touted in the recent past, but it seems like Tottenham are keeping their options open, with Belotti also very much on their radar. The 27-year-old’s contract situation would make him a much more affordable option for the Lilywhites, while his experience, leadership and proven track record would add a lot of value to the squad as well.
The report indicates that Belotti is yet to take a decision on his future, with Torino still waiting to hear from their captain if he wants to move on or sign an extension. Tottenham, for their part, are keeping a close watch on the situation and may well swoop in to sign Il Gallo should an opportunity present itself.
