Tottenham have reportedly joined Liverpool, Leeds, and West Ham in the race to sign Wolves powerhouse Adama Traore, with Nuno keen to reunite with the Spaniard.
According to a report by Daily Mail, newly-appointed Tottenham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, is planning to raid his former club Wolves for attacking talents, and the name at the top of his list is none other than speedster Adama Traore.
Since joining Wolves back in 2018 in a reported deal worth £18 million, he became a crucial part of their project racking up 131 appearances for the West Midlands outfit, contributed to 10 goals and laid 18 assists. Traore made a name for himself by being a top dribbler and one of the quickest players in the Premier League.
Nuno is, of course, a big admirer of Traore and now wants to bring the Spaniard to the north London outfit. It is understood that a major rebuilding process is ongoing at Spurs. They are inching closer to secure a £43 million deal for Atalanta’s defensive stalwart Cristian Romero and are also weighing up a move for Bologna’s versatile defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Lilywhites’ are also looking to bolster their attacking options as they are scouring the market for a potential Harry Kane replacement if he does leave. They also want to bring in a player who can play as a wide-man and have been linked with a move for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva with Traore also emerging as a target now.
Traore can be a good fit on the flanks at Tottenham due to his direct nature and dribbling ability; he can dominate either flank with his pace, direct running and trickery. He is a versatile winger who can play on both flanks and even in the wing-back role if required, saying that he is most effective when positioned on the right side of a front three.
The Spanish international is capable at off-balancing his marker and getting behind the defences; his sudden bursts of pace and ability to turn full-backs inside out are handy skills to gain lucrative territories in the opposition box. He is a physical phenomenon, good at progressing the ball and would add a different element to Spurs’ side.
The only thing that lets Traore down is his poor final balls and the lack of end product; despite getting into great positions, he rarely finds the back of the net. This was evident from his last season’s output, as he only netted two goals and registered a mere two assists.
Although Traore is open to a move, the ball is very much in Wolves court as he still has two years left to run on his Molineux contract. Wolves are going to demand a ridiculous fee in the region of £45 million for their asset. The West Midlands club have already snubbed an approach from Leeds United who were ready to offer £30 million plus add-ons.
In addition to that, Liverpool, too have expressed an interest in the Spaniard as the Reds look to bulk up their attacking options to mount a strong challenge across all fronts. Given the valuation and the competition, it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham will solidify their interest in Traore with an official bid or not.
