Aaron Ramsey is set to leave Juventus in the summer, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as a potential destination.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Aaron Ramsey could be on the move this summer as he looks to put an end to his horrid spell at Juventus. He is expected to be a part of new coach Massimiliano Allegri’s chopping block, which has apparently put Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur on red alert.

It appears Spurs’ newly-appointed sporting director Fabio Paratici is ready to raid his former club in pursuit of Ramsey, who is reportedly keen on a return to England. Arsenal were tipped as his favoured destination, but the recent interest from Tottenham makes things interesting, knowing the Gunners are more than likely to sign a younger alternative than re-signing the Welshman.

The north London giants are, in fact, in contention to sign James Maddison from Leicester City. The Englishman has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal, thus leaving Tottenham in contention to sign the 30-year-old.

A product of the Cardiff City youth academy, Ramsey is no stranger to the Premier League, having featured in 371 competitive matches for Arsenal. He moved to Juventus in 2019, joining the club on a free transfer – a decision that ruined his career as the midfielder struggled with injuries and game-time during his time in Turin.

A return to England, therefore, is on the cards, although Tottenham would certainly be a questionable choice. The Welshman had spent over ten years at Emirates, so a direct move to their arch-rivals should certainly cause animosity from both sets of fans.

From a sporting perspective, though, Ramsey is an ideal solution to Spurs’ dilemma in the creative midfield role. The Lilywhites have recently roped in Bryan Gil while sanctioning the departure of Erik Lamela. But that might not be enough, especially with Gareth Bale leaving the club and Harry Kane facing an uncertain future at the club.

Ramsey’s vast experience in English football, combined with his versatility, could have been extremely useful in that regard. However, he is not the only option on Tottenham’s radar, with Nuno Espirito Santo also keeping a close eye on Lazio’s Argentine attacker Joaquin Correa.

It must be noted that Ramsey does command high wages, so it won’t be surprising to see the Lilywhites shifting their attention to other available alternatives in the market. The player himself may not be all too keen on joining Spurs, given his history with Arsenal, so it will be interesting to see how his future unfolds this summer.
