Liverpool have been rebuffed in their €100 million offer to sign Federico Chiesa, with Juventus determined to keep hold of the Italian.
According to La Repubblica, Juventus have knocked back offers from Liverpool for the services of Federico Chiesa. The Premier League giants had apparently offered a sensational €100 million for the Italian international, who is technically a Fiorentina player and is currently on loan in Turin.
However, Juve have the option to secure his services permanently for a fee of just €60 million, a clause that is almost guaranteed to be activated, especially following his exploits at the UEFA Euro 2020. He starred for Italy in the coveted competition, helping them win the cup by scoring important goals against Spain and Austria.
At Juventus, Chiesa was one of the creators-in-chief last season. His eight goals and eight assists were critical in offering Cristiano Ronaldo some semblance of support in the final third. As such, the Bianconeri are not willing to consider a €100 million sale, as it would only hand them a net profit of around €40 million.
It serves as a massive blow for Liverpool, who are in the market for attacking reinforcements in the summer. It appears Jurgen Klopp is keen on finding a direct replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino. Neither of them has been able to make a breakthrough at Anfield, with Shaqiri more than likely to leave the club in the summer.
In addition to Chiesa, the Reds have considered multiple options in the market, including Czech super-talent Adam Hlozek. Even Wolves star Pedro Neto has emerged as an option for Klopp, although the Portuguese’s Premier League status might make him quite an expensive target for the Merseyside giants.
Liverpool may also face stiff competition in the pursuit of Chiesa himself, with Chelsea also keen on the Italian’s services. In fact, the Blues had offered €100 million as well, but are well aware of Juventus’ desire to keep hold of the 23-year-old.
It is hardly surprising as Olivier Giroud has recently joined AC Milan while versatile attacker Timo Werner is apparently keen on returning to the Bundesliga. It vacates a spot in Chelsea’s attacking unit, making Chiesa an ideal option.
The winger can not only offer some much-needed quality in the final third but can also settle in effortlessly, under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel. The German tactician himself is known for his ability to nurture young talents, having played a key role behind the phenomenal rise of players like Ousmane Dembele and even Kylian Mbappe.
However, Juventus seem to be standing firm on their stance and having first rebuffed Chelsea, have now turned down Liverpool’s offer for the 23-year-old Chiesa. it remains to be seen if the Reds are willing to return with an improved offer for the Italian.
