Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rekindled their interest in Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar and have submitted a fresh proposal for the 26-year-old.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Inter Milan’s Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar in the ongoing transfer window.
Skriniar has been with Inter Milan since 2017, having arrived after an eighteen-month stint with Sampdoria and has since grown into one of the best defenders on show in Serie A. To date, the 26-year-old has racked up 167 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring seven goals and setting up four more and was a key part of the team that won the Serie A title last season.
Skriniar was also impressive in Slovakia’s short-lived run in the UEFA Euro 2020 as well. Ready to kick off a new season under new manager Simone Inzaghi at San Siro, the centre-back has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Tottenham’s interest in Skriniar is not new, with the club having tried hard to sign him up last summer, only to baulk at Inter Milan’s valuation. However, with new manager Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, defence seems to be an area that the north London giants are intent on bolstering this summer, and for good reason.
Toby Alderweireld appears to be on his way out, which will leave a massive void in the backline for Tottenham. In addition, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have never been consistent enough over a prolonged period whereas Joe Rodon is still lacking the experience at the highest level.
And, this is where someone like Skriniar could enter the picture. A seasoned campaigner, who at 26, still has his best years in front of him, the Inter Milan would bring his defensive nous and leadership to the table should Tottenham sign him up. To that end, it seems like the Lilywhites have now submitted a proposal to the Nerazzurri in order to gauge the possibility of signing the Slovakian.
However, an alternate report from Calciomercato claims that Skriniar, despite the strong interest from Tottenham, has his heart set on a stay at Inter Milan this summer. Whether the Premier League bigwigs are able to turn his head or are forced to turn their attention elsewhere remains to be seen, with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde an option as well.
