Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to rival Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of RB Leipzig’s star playmaker Dani Olmo.
According to El Gol Digital, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have entered the market for Dani Olmo. The RB Leipzig playmaker has turned many heads with his performances at UEFA Euro 2020 and is tipped to leave the Bundesliga this summer.
Atletico Madrid have been primarily interested in a move for Olmo amid Saul Niguez’s uncertain future. However, the latest interest from Arsenal and Tottenham may hinder their hopes of sealing the deal for the Leipzig star, who is currently contracted to the east German outfit until 2024.
A former La Masia graduate, Olmo joined Die Roten Bullen in January 2020. It was an ambitious move from the Bundesliga club that has paid dividends as well, with the 23-year-old playmaker being involved in 25 goals in 61 competitive appearances.
The Spanish international thrived under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann. But with the German tactician moving to Bayern, Olmo’s future at Leipzig remains uncertain, especially after the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai earlier in the year. Olmo is not the only player either, with Marcel Sabitzer also unsure of his future and role under new head coach Jesse Marsch. The Austrian international is reportedly a target for Arsenal.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Leipzig players does not stop there, with even Olmo now emerging as a potential option. It appears Mikel Arteta highly favours the 23-year-old as he scours the market for a new playmaker.
The Gunners haven not had much luck in their pursuit of no. 10s this summer. They have been linked with a lucrative move for James Maddison lately, but the Leicester City starlet is expected to cost a fortune. The same can be said for Martin Odegaard, with Real Madrid persistent on their hefty price tag.
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur are trying their best to keep hold of Harry Kane. But should the Englishman leave, especially amid strong interest from Manchester City, the Lilywhites will be forced to sign a goalscorer and a playmaker.
Olmo fits the bill perfectly as he can operate anywhere in the final third, including the false nine role. Tottenham, though, are considering other options as well, and in addition to Olmo, they are rivalling Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of Lorenzo Insigne as well.
