Tottenham Hotspur have identified Marcus Thuram as a priority target in attack as they prepare for life without Harry Kane.
A recent report from Foot Mercato has shed some light on Tottenham Hotspur’s market policy this summer. It appears the Premier League giants are once again scouting French players ahead of a potential squad overhaul under the leadership of new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
The likes of Jules Kounde and Maxence Lacroix have been identified as potential options in defence. But in attack, Spurs are gunning for Marcus Thuram. The Borussia Monchengladbach attacker is apparently keen on leaving the club after the Foals failed to secure European football, finishing eighth in the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign.
Thuram is valued at around €30 million but is courted by Borussia Dortmund, who are in the market for new attackers, following the departure of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
Son of one of France’s most prized footballers in Lilian Thuram, the Gladbach attacker, endured a difficult campaign last season. The Frenchman struggled with some fitness issues but majorly lacked form in front of goal. As such, he fell behind Lars Stindl, Jonas Hofmann, Alassane Plea and even Breel Embolo in the pecking order.
Thuram ended the campaign with eight goals and seven assists but was picked by Didier Deschamps in the French team for the UEFA Euro 2020. He didn’t start a single game as Les Blues were knocked out from the Round of 16 by Switzerland.
However, the 23-year-old appears to have impressed Fabio Paratici with his physicality and pace in the final third. Indeed, the Frenchman is a powerful runner of the ball, while his goalscoring prowess and versatility make him an exciting option for the Tottenham attack.
Thuram might not be a direct replacement for Harry Kane, but he can improve the club’s productivity. Not to mention, the Lilwyhites have been linked with a proper number nine as well, in fellow Bundesliga star Wout Weghorst.
That said, Tottenham need a pinch of luck if they are to secure the services of Thuram this summer. The Gladbach forward would love to join fellow pursuers Dortmund in order to reunite with Marco Rose, but it appears the Black and Yellows are mainly targeting Liverpool linked Donyell Malen.
Their success in the chase for the PSV Eindhoven could aid Spurs’ hopes of signing the Frenchman, who might be an absolute bargain this summer.
