Liverpool have contact with Inter Milan for the pursuit of Nicolo Barella, as Jurgen Klopp continues his search for a new midfielder.
According to a recent report published by Calciomercato, Inter Milan are in further danger of losing star players despite almost completing the sale of Achraf Hakimi. It appears Nicolo Barella has emerged as a target for one Premier League club in Liverpool, with the English outfit even making contact over a possible deal.
However, Inter have been quick to rebuff their attempts to sign Barella. Their initial stance is that the prized midfielder is not for sale this summer, despite the club’s precarious financial position.
The Nerazzurri are soon expected to sanction the sale of Hakimi. The right-back was courted by Chelsea last month but is closing in on the move to Paris Saint-Germain. The deal is, in fact, imminent, giving Inter the ideal financial boost they required following a difficult economic year.
It doesn’t bode well for Liverpool, though, knowing the newly crowned Italian champions will be under no pressure to offload Barella. After all, the midfielder is now considered one of the best in the business, having enjoyed two successful seasons at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
A central midfielder by trade, Barella has impressed the onlookers with his quality in possession. His ability to create chances has turned many heads as well, with the Inter Milan star notching up ten assists this past season.
It has caught the eye of Liverpool, too, as they continue their search for a Georginio Wijnaldum replacement. The Dutchman ran down his contract at Anfield last season in favour of a move to PSG, leaving behind a massive void in the club’s midfield department.
Klopp has appeared desperate to fill that void, with the Reds recently linked with another star player in Saul Niguez. Barella seems to be a much more ideal replacement due to his ball-carrying abilities and an exciting form that has seen him star for Italy in the ongoing European Championship.
Barella is not the only Serie A midfielder being targeted by Liverpool, though. In fact, Merseyside has appeared as a shock option for Juventus outcast Aaron Ramsey, although the Welshman prefers a return to his former club, Arsenal.
It is indeed going to be another interesting summer for the Reds, as Jurgen Klopp looks to address some of his team’s glaring issues after a disappointing title defence.
