Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival West Ham United and Watford in pursuit of Paul Onuachu, as Mikel Arteta eyes attacking reinforcements.
According to the latest report from The Athletic, Paul Onuachu is the subject of major interest from the Premier League. Arsenal, West Ham United and Watford are among the clubs monitoring the Genk forward and a move to England this summer could be on the cards.
Genk value Onuachu at around £20 million, which puts Watford out of contention as the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are short on finances. It makes Arsenal a potential option for the tall forward, especially with Mikel Arteta determined to shore up his attacking unit following a difficult season.
Standing at a towering 2.01m, Onuachu has indeed raised a lot of eyebrows with imposing presence in the final third. His height makes him an intimidating figure for defenders, giving him the physical and aerial dominance that might make him a tailor-made fit in the Premier League.
However, what truly made Onuachu a sensation in the Belgian league is his highly successful 2020/21 campaign. In just 41 competitive matches, the Nigerian international has netted as many as 35 goals, making him one of the most productive players in Europe alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski.
Onuachu’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Arsenal now ready to pounce on the Genk forward. The Gunners have had a lot of issues in regards to their goalscoring department, especially after the struggles of star player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Other options like Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have not fared any better for Arsenal either. As such, neither of them appear to have any future at the Emirates, with the young Nketiah notably being offered to Leeds United earlier this summer.
However, Onuachu is not the only option Arsenal are targeting at the moment. The north London giants have been linked with a move for Lazio’s Joaquin Correa this summer while they have registered interest in the services of Euro 2020 hero Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen.
At just £20 million, Onuachu certainly is the most cost-effective option of the three, though. Not to mention, he has the physical prowess and height that makes him a better alternative for Aubameyang, as the two potentially provide good variety in the final third for Arsenal.
