Manchester United have rekindled their interest in Marcos Llorente, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes a summer swoop for the Atletico Madrid star.
According to an update from Marca, Manchester United have once again entered the market for Marcos Llorente. The Atletico Madrid midfielder has raised a lot of eyebrows with his performances in Laliga, becoming a critical figure behind the club’s triumph in the Spanish top-flight.
Manchester United were interested in Llorente in the January transfer window, but they were rebuffed by Atleti. The Red Devils are now ready to rekindle their pursuit once again, hoping to take advantage of the pandemic that has put numerous clubs across Europe in financial disarray.
Llorente is no stranger to interest from top clubs, having been linked with a move to Chelsea earlier this summer. Even Liverpool were keen on his services, with Jurgen Klopp identifying him as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
These two giants are now set to face fresh competition from Manchester United. It appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to add more quality in his midfield department, especially after the disappointment of last summer’s marquee signing in Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman is now being linked with a move away from Old Trafford. Solskjaer, though, is also determined to find an alternative for Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has not quite impressed at Manchester United consistently despite his top class performances for the French national team.
Llorente appears to be an ideal option, having showcased incredible attacking prowess and versatility. Indeed, the Spaniard has become one of Atletico Madrid’s creator-in-chief, being involved in a total of 23 goals this past season.
Aside from his productivity, Llorente has played a variety of different roles under Diego Llorente. It comes to a point where the former Real Madrid starlet can even provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United, having played as a right-back for Spain in the ongoing European Championships.
Llorente’s proficiency in playing a wider role could indeed be of massive help for Solskjaer. However, it remains to be seen how the midfielder can be accommodated, as Manchester United are closing in on the capture of Jadon Sancho.
The Englishman’s move to Old Trafford is apparently imminent, which might not only affect Llorente’s prospects out wide but also hinder the club’s financial powers in the market. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United make a move for the 26-year-old Spanish international soon.
