Transfer News: Manchester United scout Adrien Rabiot at UEFA Euro 2020

Liverpool, Newcastle make moves to sign 29-year-old Frenchman, player wants Real Madrid switch.

Manchester United were monitoring Adrien Rabiot during France’s UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16 exit at the hands of Switzerland on Monday.

According to Daily Star, a Manchester United scout was in attendance when France were playing Switzerland in the UEFA Euro 2020 Round of 16 tie on Monday. It is believed that he was mainly keeping an eye on Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who had started the game alongside Red Devils’ star Paul Pogba.

The Juventus ace ended up having a disastrous game, though one could argue that he was played out of position by Didier Deschamps. He was, nonetheless, far from impressive, struggling to deal with the offensive pressure from the Swiss attackers.

It was not a good look for the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who has already been linked with a move away from Turin. He is yet to establish himself at Juve, struggling to impose his presence in the Italian league and might even leave the club in the summer, along with Aaron Ramsey, who is emerged on Barcelona radar.

Manchester United’s interest in Rabiot is not very surprising, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is actively looking for reinforcements in the midfield unit. He is reportedly desperate to find an upgrade over Fred and Scott McTominay, someone who can offer ideal support to the more creative operators like Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Rabiot fits the bill well, as he is renowned for his work rate in midfield. He is technically gifted as well and knows how to read the game. It combines well with the Frenchman’s aggression that makes him a useful asset in the second line of press, not just for Juve but for France as well.

The 26-year-old is not the only option at the disposal of Manchester United, though. The Red Devils have been recently linked with a summer swoop for Eduardo Camavinga, whose £40 million price tag makes him an attractive option in the market.

Already touted as one of the most gifted young players in world football, Camavinga has a much higher ceiling than Rabiot. His lack of experience might be a problem in the Premier League, though, especially considering the hopes and expectations that revolve around any Manchester United signing.

That said, Solskjaer is looking at experienced options as well. Ruben Neves, for one, has emerged as the latest option for the club, although it will be interesting to see how the club’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho affects their financial powers in the market. For now, the Red Devils did scout Rabiot, and it remains to be seen whether they act on their interest in the Frenchman.
