Barcelona are reportedly among four clubs keeping a close eye on SD Huesca defender Javi Galan with a summer swoop being lined up.
According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, La Liga giants Barcelona are keeping a close watch on SD Huesca full-back Javi Galan, who is also being courted by three other clubs this summer.
Having made his name in the lower divisions of Spain with Cordoba, Galan made the switch to Huesca in the January transfer window of 2019 and has been a regular in the first-team since. To date, the 26-year-old has featured 83 times for the Spanish minnows, bagging two goals and five assists in the process.
Galan was one of Huesca’s better performers in the 2020/21 La Liga as he featured in 37 outings over the course of the campaign, scoring one goal and setting up two more for his teammates. However, with Huesca getting relegated, they are now staring at the prospect of losing the 26-year-old, with several clubs queuing up to sign the left-back.
Indeed, as claimed by a report from Mundo Deportivo, reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have a strong interest in Galan, along with Sevilla, while Premier League outfit Leeds United have also shown a keenness towards signing the Spaniard. And, it seems like Barcelona, too, have entered the fray for the left-back’s signing if the report from Fichajes is something to go by.
Barcelona head into the summer with a new left-back being one of the top priorities. Jordi Alba, at 32, is entering the final phase of his career and needs his game-time to be managed. However, with Junior Firpo hardly making any sort of impression during his two-year stint at Camp Nou, he is set to be offloaded before the next season kicks off.
So, the Blaugrana will be left without any cover for Alba in the left-back position, which needs to be addressed. While Jose Gaya of Valencia remains their top priority, a deal for him could get complicated if Los Che decide to demand a premium fee. A move for Robin Gosens of Atalanta has also been mooted as well, but someone like Galan can be a bargain addition while coming in with a decent amount of experience in La Liga.
Indeed, on top of Huesca being relegated, Galan is entering the final year of his contract with the club and has an exit clause of just €4 million. It now remains to be seen if Barcelona decide to act on their reported interest in the Spaniard or push ahead with their priority targets Gaya or Gosens in the summer.
