Liverpool have been put on red alert, as Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman reportedly faces an uncertain future at the club.
A recent report from Fichajes has offered an update on Kingsley Coman’s delicate situation at Bayern Munich. After the departure of David Alaba over a dispute in contract negotiations, the French winger could become the next player to leave the club for similar reasons, though perhaps not for a free transfer.
It appears Coman’s agent Pini Zahavi is determined to extract a new contract from Bayern that involved a significant pay raise for his client. The Bavarians, though, are being reluctant to do so, putting Liverpool on red alert. The Premier League giants are even willing to splash out €35 million to sign Coman in the summer, although it does fall short of Bayern’s €50 million valuation.
Coman’s current contract in Munich expires in 2023, meaning his price could further drop if Liverpool wait another year. Jurgen Klopp, however, is determined to bolster his options in the attacking department this summer, especially after a largely disappointing 2020/21 campaign.
The German tactician wants someone who can probe the opposition defences with pace and trickery on the flanks, much like Sadio Mane. One would imagine one of Liverpool’s main targets was Jadon Sancho, but it appears the Englishman has his heart set on a move to Manchester United after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the club.
Coman is an excellent alternative, though, having enjoyed a majestic career during his time at Bayern Munich. He has notched up 200 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 41 goals while registering 51 assists.
The Frenchman is no stranger to success either, having won multiple titles across Italy, France and Germany as well as being the scorer of 2020’s Champions League final winner against Paris Saint-Germain, who have recently signed Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum.
At Liverpool, Coman can potentially reunite with former Bayern teammate Thiago Alcantara. It is also fair to point out that he may not have much future under Julian Nagelsmann, who favours versatile and technical attackers rather than speedsters.
A move to Liverpool, in that regard, might make a world of sense, although he may have to compete with the likes of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino for a place in the starting eleven. The Bayern winger might get lucky with the departure of either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah but that remains unlikely in the current state of the market.
