Transfer News: Real Madrid lead race to sign Gonzalo Sosa

Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race to secure the signing of Argentine wonderkid Gonzalo Sosa, who has been dubbed the ‘new Riquelme’.

According to a report from Spanish publication Defensa Central, Real Madrid could be closing in on the capture of one of Argentina’s most promising young footballers this summer as they are set to open talks for the signing of Gonzalo Sosa from Racing de Avellaneda.

Sosa is a product of the Racing Club academy and is already playing for the outfit’s Under-20 team despite turning 16 years old only recently. An attacking midfielder by trade, the teenager has been described as a player with great vision and ability to create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Nicknamed the ‘talented one’ in Argentina, Sosa has also been likened to the legendary Juan Roman Riquelme. And, his progress at Racing Club has caught the eyes of several bigwigs across Europe, with Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid all taking an interest in his services. In addition, there have been admiring glances from Bayern Munich, PSG and Manchester City as well.

However, as per the report, Real Madrid are currently leading the race to land the teenage prodigy. This is because Los Blancos have already sent emissaries to Argentina and are set to hold talks with the representatives of Sosa, as confirmed by his agent Martin Sendoa.

Speaking to Racing de Alma (h/t Defensa Central), he said, “Several clubs want him, but there are Real Madrid envoys in Argentina and these days we are going to get together. They also want him from Barcelona. Scouts from Bayern Munich, PSG, Manchester United and City followed him.”

Real Madrid, in recent years, have made it a habit of picking up the best young talents in South America, to oversee their development and build them into stars at the club. The likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes have become regular fixtures in the first-team at the Santiago Bernabeu while Reinier Jesus, who is currently out on loan at Borussia Dortmund, could be the next one in line to do so.

And, it seems like the Merengues intend to continue such a trend in their transfer operations with the interest in Sosa, along with another Argentine talent in Maximo Perrone. With Real Madrid set to hold talks with Sosa’s representatives in the coming days, it remains to be seen if they are able to land the talented attacking midfielder.
