Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho this summer.

According to Jan Aage Fjortoft, Liverpool are among the clubs keeping an eye on Jadon Sancho. The Borussia Dortmund winger has emerged as the desired transfer target for multiple top clubs this summer, including Manchester United, who are ready to splash the cash on the former Man City youngster.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a keen admirer of Sancho, although it seems Liverpool must sell one of their star players in either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane in order to afford the Englishman who is being valued around the €100 million mark, although Dortmund might be willing to reduce their demands a little in view of the pandemic.

Following a slow start to the 2020/21 campaign, Sancho has been on fire since the turn of the year – becoming one of Bundesliga’s best performing stars alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Andre Silva and his teammate Erling Haaland.

Indeed, after just five assists during the first half of the campaign, Sancho has been involved in a total of 14 Bundesliga goals in 2021. He most recently starred in the win over RB Leipzig, scoring a brace that included a late winner – helping Dortmund keep their Champions League hopes alive.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, they seem to be showing a lot of ambition heading into the market this summer, especially in the attacking department as Klopp looks to bolster his options after a disappointing campaign.

In fact, the Reds are reportedly keeping an eye on Leeds United frontman Patrick Bamford as a potential alternative to Roberto Firmino. Making a move for Sancho, however, could be a whole different ballgame, as the 21-year-old is widely considered as one of the best young wingers in world football.

Along with Mason Mount and Phil Foden, Sancho is often touted as the three heads of England’s future attacking unit as well. As such, he is sure to cost a fortune, to the point where Liverpool may have to offload either Salah or Mane.

It could be a risky move given how prolific they have been in recent years – playing a vital role in the club’s success under Klopp. At the same time, though, both these wingers do not offer much prospect for the future and that is where Sancho could turn out to be an excellent long-term investment.

Unfortunately, Liverpool’s likely failure in securing Champions League football next season could see them trail Manchester United in the race to sign the Dortmund winger, who will most certainly prefer a switch to Old Trafford.
