Real Madrid are reportedly closely monitoring the progress of Wolves’ Portuguese forward Fabio Silva ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Defensa Central, reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the development of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ striker Fabio Silva as they eye attacking reinforcements in the summer.
Silva came through the youth ranks at Portuguese giants FC Porto and made his first-team debut at the age of just 17. He went on to make 21 senior appearances for the Dragoes, scoring three goals, before Wolves came calling for him last summer, signing him up for a club-record £35 million transfer fee, despite his lack of exposure at the highest level.
Having made the jump to the Premier League, Silva, as one would have expected, has not had it easy. Indeed, the 18-year-old has managed a tally of just four goals and two assists from 29 league appearances for the Midlands outfit. While he may have not been able to deliver the goods in front of goal on a consistent basis, the teenage forward has shown plenty of spark and potential in his debut season in England.
And, it seems like the teenage forward’s progress with Wolves has alerted Real Madrid, who are now closely monitoring Silva as they line up reinforcements in the centre-forward department in the upcoming transfer window.
It is no secret that Real Madrid have struggled for goals without Karim Benzema on the pitch. The Frenchman has been the go-to man for Zinedine Zidane & co. with backup striker Mariano Diaz struggling to make an impact when given a chance while Luka Jovic’s poor form in Spain led to him getting loaned out to former club Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.
With Benzema not getting any younger, Real Madrid need an ace goalscorer to replace the Frenchman long-term, which has led to strong interest in Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland. In addition to the Norwegian international, Los Blancos have also been linked with a move for Inter Milan’s title-winning striker Lautaro Martinez of late, with reports claiming that talks over a move have already begun.
Even if Real Madrid end up signing of the two premier strikers, it would not be the worst idea for them to bring in another young centre-forward to provide cover from the bench and use as a rotation option when needed – something that has been a problem for Zidane in the current season. To that end, they have been linked with Manchester City teenager Liam Delap, with Silva now also emerging as a viable target.
Silva is contracted to Wolves till the summer of 2025. Having signed him for a club-record fee less than a year ago, the Black Country outfit are likely to demand a sizeable sum for his services. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid decide to act on their interest in the 18-year-old or look elsewhere to bolster their attacking unit this summer.
