Manchester United have emerged as a potential destination for Marcelo Brozovic, who could be on the verge of a move away from Inter Milan this summer.
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are in for a busy transfer window, with many of their first-team stars facing an uncertain future at the club. Marcelo Brozovic is among the players, who could on the verge of a move away from San Siro, with his contract at the club expiring at the end of next season.
Although Inter Milan are determined to tie the 28-year-old midfielder down to a new contract, they could be forced to cash in on him in the summer, due to fears over losing him for free. It has put Manchester United on alert, although the Premier League giants could face stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus.
Part of Inter Milan since 2015, Brozovic has been an indispensable figure in Antonio Conte’s midfield unit. He has brought in stability, control and composure in the middle of the park, helping the Nerazzurri close in on breaking Juventus’ hegemony over Serie A in the ongoing campaign.
The Croatian international’s performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, either, with Real Madrid, in particular, notably being linked with a move for the midfielder, earlier this month.
Manchester United’s interest is hardly surprising either, as the Premier League giants prepare for life without Nemanja Matic. The ageing midfielder is already in the final phase of his career, while coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also likely to enter the market for an upgrade over Fred in the double pivot.
It makes Brozovic a particularly interesting candidate given his vast experience at the highest level of football, having been a midfield stalwart in Serie A for quite some time now. The 28-year-old has already featured in 238 competitive matches for Inter while winning almost 60 caps for the Croatian national team.
In addition to his experience, the former Dinamo Zagreb star can offer the much-needed stability and coverage for Manchester United’s defence. Brozovic is quite familiar with playing in a variety of rules, including a 3-5-2 system that is predominantly used by Antonio Conte, the current Inter Milan manager.
A move to Old Trafford, therefore, will certainly be an excellent match for both the player and Manchester United. In fact, the report suggests that Inter might even want to secure a swap or a player-plus-cash deal involving Brozovic and Eric Bailly.
The Manchester United centre-back has had a difficult time under Solskjaer, struggling with a lack of game-time and fitness. He could, thus, look for a move away from the club, joining Inter, where he can reunite with former teammates including Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian, who was impressed in the club’s recent win over Hellas Verona.
