Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking at Sevilla goalkeeper Bono, who could be on his way out of the La Liga club this summer.
According to a report from Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, commonly known as Bono, is seeking a transfer away from the La Liga club in the summer which has alerted Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Bono, 30, started out at Wydad AC in Morocco, before joining Atletico Madrid in 2012. He spent four years on the club’s books but never managed a first-team appearance. After a loan stint at Real Zaragoza, the goalkeeper joined Girona on a permanent transfer in 2016.
Having made a good impression in his three years at the club, Bono was signed up by Sevilla, initially on loan, before the transfer was made permanent last summer. Till date, the 30-year-old has racked up 55 appearances for the club, managing to secure 33 clean sheets, winning the UEFA Europa League last season.
Bono is contracted with Sevilla till the summer of 2024. However, with Los Nervionenses set to sign Marko Dmitrovic from Eibar at the end of the season, the 30-year-old is now considering his future at the La Liga club and has already made a request to secure a transfer away in the summer window.
And, as per the report, Manchester United could be an option for the Moroccan international, with the Red Devils interested in his services. As things stand, the 20-time English champions have a stockpile of goalkeepers with David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira, who is out on loan.
However, three of the five – Romero, Grant and Pereira will be out of contract at the end of the season. And as for de Gea, the Red Devils are said to be ready to move on from the Spanish international this summer, having recently placed a £50 million valuation on him.
So, in case de Gea leaves, Manchester United will need a new goalkeeper to provide cover for Henderson, who is seemingly the current No. 1 at Old Trafford. This would explain the club’s interest in Bono, given that he has experience at the highest level and can be a reliable backup.
At the same time, the report also adds that Tottenham are also in contention to land the Sevilla goalkeeper as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris. The 34-year-old has shown signs of decline in the recent past and his contract with the north London giants runs out at the end of next season.
Interestingly, Tottenham had been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Henderson, but that is pretty much a no-go now that the Englishman is a regular at Old Trafford. So, Bono could be an alternative that Spurs consider signing at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen if there is any attempt from either Manchester United or Tottenham to secure the services of Bono from La Liga outfit Sevilla in the summer.
