Transfer News: Barcelona set sights on Fabio Blanco

Barcelona prioritising January move for Thiago Alcantara.

Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on a summer move for Valencia starlet Fabio Blanco who has been dubbed as the ‘new Ferran Torres’.

According to a report from Spanish publication Sport, La Liga giants Barcelona are lining up a summer move for Valencia’s highly-rated teenage prospect Fabio Blanco.

Blanco, 17, has come through the youth ranks at Valencia and is currently playing for Los Che’s Under-19 side. However, the right-winger’s contract is up for expiry at the end of the ongoing season and Barcelona are hoping to capitalise on the situation by bringing him in this summer transfer window.

With Joan Laporta back at the helm as the Barcelona president, there once again seems to be a particular focus on strengthening the youth ranks and bringing in young players with potential into the side so that they can grow into first-team players within the club.

To that end, Barcelona, of late have been linked with a host of promising youngsters such as Nicolas Siri who recently broke a long-held record by the legendary Pele, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Under-17 captain Vasco Walz among others.

Now, Fabio Blanco has also popped up on the Catalan giants’ radar with his contract situation alerting the club of a potential signing. As per the report, the interest in the 17-year-old Valencia ace is being driven by Mateu Alemany, who is Barcelona’s new director of football under the current regime.

Alemany is said to be convinced of the potential that Blanco possesses and has made it a priority to sign him this summer, despite there being other pressing issues at the first-team level that need addressing. Barcelona are not the only club vying for Blanco’s signing though, with half of Europe pursuing his transfer, as per the report.

However, Barcelona are confident of striking a deal for the exciting winger. To that end, initial talks have already been held, which has led to a wave of optimism. But, as things stand, a deal is far from being done.

And Blanco, who has represented the Spanish national team at the Under-15 and Under-16 levels and has been dubbed the ‘new Ferran Torres’, could soon be on his way to Barcelona when his deal runs out.
