Manchester United are among the clubs keeping an eye on Accrington Stanley’s goalkeeping prodigy Toby Savin, who is also courted by Newcastle United.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Manchester United are ready to rival Newcastle United in the pursuit of Toby Savin. The Accrington Stanley goalkeeper has raised a lot of eyebrows with his performances in League One and a move away to the Premier League could be on the horizon in the summer.
Newcastle United, in particular, seem to be keen on securing the services of Savin, although the youngster is also valued by Manchester United’s goalkeeping expert Tony Cotton. In fact, he has been keeping an eye on Savin for a long time now, so it won’t be surprising to see the Red Devils making a move to sign the Accrington Stanley custodian in the summer.
A part of the Accrington’s senior side since 2019, Savin has enjoyed a breakout campaign in League One this season, having already notched up 20 league appearances. He has kept six clean sheets so far, conceding just 30 goals, with his performances in between the sticks helping the club retain their mid-table status in the third division.

Manchester United’s desire to sign the 20-year-old stems from the potential he has shown during his time in League One so far. Standing at a towering 1.94m, Savin also has the physique, as well as the quality to become a top-class Premier League goalkeeper, although he is likely to face stiff competition upon a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Red Devils are already torn between David de Gea and Dean Henderson as their first-choice goalkeeper. Although the latter has been constantly linked with an exit, due to lack of game-time, it appears the Englishman has an excellent chance of taking on the mantle from de Gea to become the club’s number one, having recently deputised for the Spaniard in his absence this month.
As far as Savin is concerned, he will likely be drafted into the first-team due to his breakthrough in League One this campaign. The pending departure of Lee Grant and Sergio Romero coupled with the fact that United may also contemplate on offloading de Gea should greatly aid the 20-year-old in his quest to earn a more prominent role in the starting eleven.
Overall, Savin seems to be a smart long-term investment for Manchester United as they continue their youthful revolution under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
