Transfer News: Arsenal poised to sign Tyrick Mitchell on a Bosman deal

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal are ready to sign Tyrick Mitchell for free in the summer after being rebuffed by Crystal Palace in their January attempts to sign the fullback.

According to Todofichajes, Arsenal are set to remain persistent on their pursuit of Tyrick Mitchell. The Gunners are interested in the services of the Crystal Palace left-back this January as Mikel Arteta looks to find some competition for Kieran Tierney. However, their attempts to sign the fullback was rebuffed by their London rivals.

As a result, Arsenal are willing to wait until summer to get their hands on Mitchell. The youngster’s current contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of the season, which means he will be available for a free transfer. Although the north London club cannot work out a potential pre-contract, it appears they are to ready offer him a lucrative contract in the summer.

It could be an ideal move, as far as Arsenal are concerned, given the fact that they are in no immediate pressure of signing a left-back. Although the club did offload Sead Kolasinac earlier this January, they still have Ainsley Maitland-Niles as an alternative for Tierney, while Bukayo Saka can also operate in the left-back position.

The remaining six more months at Selhurst Park should also aid Mitchell as he is already a critical part of the Crystal Palace backline. Spending a whole season in the English top-flight, therefore, can only improve as a footballer.

The 21-year-old could face problems in regards to game-time in case of his immediate move for Emirates. He could fall behind the likes of Tierney and potentially Maitland-Niles in the pecking order. Instead, a continued impression in the Premier League during the remainder of the campaign should help Mitchell make a better case of becoming a fierce competitor for Tierney next season.

As for Arsenal, they have been linked with quite a few left-backs recently, including Ryan Bertrand. The Southampton star offers a more immediate solution to the depth in the corresponding position rather than Mitchel, who is more of a long-term investment.

It is, however, fair to point out that the Saints are unlikely to release Bertrand this January, so it will be interesting to see which one of the fullbacks Arsenal target in the summer.
