Real Madrid are reportedly prioritising a summer move for Eduardo Camavinga as they look to bolster their midfield unit.
After reportedly reaching an agreement to sign David Alaba, Real Madrid, it seems, have shifted their attention towards another top target in Eduardo Camavinga. A report from MARCA, as relayed by Le10Sport claim that the Spanish giants have even made the Rennes midfielder their top priority in the summer as Zinedine Zidane looks to bolster his midfield options.
Camavinga was notably linked with a move to the Spanish capital last summer as well. Although a transfer did not materialise for multiple reasons, the agreement had already reached an advanced stage. Real Madrid are now looking to resume those talks and potentially speed up the process as they look to defeat other interested parties in the race to sign the Frenchman.
A product of the Rennes youth academy, Camavinga has been linked with a move to a host of top clubs across Europe, including Manchester United. The Red Devils could incidentally identify the youngster as an ideal replacement for Paul Pogba, who has been a subject of speculation in the past, regarding a potential move to Real Madrid.
The former Juventus midfielder is also held at high esteem by Zinedine Zidane. But, it appears the Real Madrid manager currently prefers Camavinga and for good reasons, given the impact the youngster has had in Ligue 1 over the past couple of seasons.
At the age of just 18, the midfielder has already become a first-team regular at Rennes. His work-rate, tenacity and a remarkable understanding of the game have even made him the most important cog in Julien Stephan’s tactical setup. The youngster’s form this season has been instrumental in helping the Red and Blacks to fight for a Champions League spot.
Real Madrid could certainly use a player like him, as the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric enter the final phase of their respective careers. In addition, there has been a lack of quality alternatives for those two midfield superstars, often leaving Los Blancos quite shallow in the middle third of the pitch.
Camavinga, in that regard, can provide backup not only for Casemiro in the holding midfield role but also for Kroos or Modric in the slightly advanced roles. At the age of 18, he is also a smart long-term investment and could well forge a formidable midfield partnership alongside Federico Valverde and Casemiro in the coming years. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid do launch the offensive for him anytime soon.
