Manchester United have reportedly made a loan offer to sign Christian Eriksen from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the ongoing transfer window.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, as relayed by the Express, transfer expert Ian McGarry has claimed that Manchester United have been offered the services of Christian Eriksen on loan by Inter Milan. The reliable journalist further adds that the Red Devils have made an offer for the 28-year-old.

Eriksen, after spending close to seven years in England with Tottenham Hotspur, made the switch to Inter Milan in January last year. However, the Danish playmaker has struggled to carve out a place for himself in Antonio Conte’s side and is set to be shown the exit doors just a year after moving to Italy.

So far, Eriksen has featured just 14 times for Inter Milan in the 2020/21 campaign, only four of which have been starts in Serie A. The former AFC Ajax star has failed to contribute with a single goal or an assist and is now primed to leave. Arsenal have been tipped as his next destination, while former club Tottenham are also said to be interested in a potential reunion.

However, McGarry has now claimed that Inter Milan have offered Eriksen to Manchester United, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer open to the idea of adding another creative midfielder to the ranks as he looks to lead the club to their first-ever Premier League title since 2013.

“It is while our understanding, while he has been linked heavily with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, he has in fact been offered to Manchester United. It would be a loan deal until the end of the season with no option to buy as far as it goes at the moment. Solskjaer is keen on the idea. He is looking for a central midfielder to assist in United’s challenge for the Premier League title,” he said.

McGarry also added that Manchester United had made an offer to take the Dane on loan, but their bid is some way short of meeting Inter Milan’s demands, who want the Red Devils to cover Eriksen’s entire wages over the second half of the season.

“The deal is far from being done, mostly because Manchester United have not offered to pay a sufficient part of his ways. He is on €8m net per year, meaning €4m for the remainder of this season. United have offered around €1.5m with Inter paying the rest,” he added.

It is intriguing to see Manchester United pursuing a move for another midfielder at a time when Solskjaer has been unable to find ways to utilise summer recruit, Donny van de Beek, on a regular basis this term. On the flipside, Eriksen’s proven pedigree and experience in the Premier League could help the 20-time English champions make a push for the title.

It remains to be seen if anything comes of Manchester United’s approach for Eriksen before the transfer window closes in less than a couple of weeks.
