Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams could be on his way to Newcastle United this month, with the framework over a loan deal reportedly agreed.

According to a report from Shields Gazzette, Newcastle United and Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle over the loan transfer of youngster Brandon Williams in the ongoing window.

A product of the Manchester United youth academy, Williams burst onto the scenes last season, making quite the impression. Having made his debut in a Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale, the 20-year-old went on to make 36 senior appearances across all competitions in 2019/20, scoring one goal and setting up two more.

This season, however, Williams has had to struggle for game-time in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. The summer arrival of Alex Telles coupled with Luke Shaw’s improved form has meant that the 20-year-old has made just five first-team appearances in 2020/21, playing just six minutes of Premier League football.

Given his situation, Manchester United have now informed Williams that he is open to leave the club on loan in January so that his development does not stall. And, it is now being claimed that Newcastle United are the front-runners to land the England Under-21 international, having agreed a deal in principle with the Red Devils.

The Magpies are in need of a new left-back as summer signing Jamal Lewis has failed to settle in as expected after arriving from Norwich City, forcing Steve Bruce to fall back upon Matt Ritchie as his preferred option on the left side of the defence. Furthermore, right-back DeAndre Yedlin is being linked with a move away this month.

Given Williams’s ability to play on either flank, the 20-year-old becomes an attractive prospect for the Tyneside outfit. Newcastle are not the only club interested in signing the Manchester United academy product, with Southampton also keen on the versatile defender.

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are also believed to be looking at taking him on loan. But, it seems like a move to Newcastle could be imminent for Williams, with a framework over a loan deal already agreed upon. It now remains to be seen if the loan transfer does go through over the line in the coming days.
