Tottenham Hotspur’s 27-year-old talisman Harry Kane has been recommended a move to Real Madrid to achieve his trophy ambition.
As quoted by Goal, Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been urged by Jonathan Woodgate to move to Real Madrid to match the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and also to fulfil his silverware dream.
Woodgate played for both Real Madrid and Tottenham and does not think that Tottenham are the right fit for Kane. As a result, he has suggested that a switch to the Spanish capital would do the Englishman well and help him “get onto the next pedestal”.
Speaking to Stadium Astro (h/t Goal), Woodgate said, “If Real Madrid come in for you – especially Harry Kane – he has got to go. If he wants to win trophies and get onto that next pedestal of Messi, Ronaldo and that type of player, he has to go.”
“I don’t see him winning the league at Spurs, not this season and not in the next few seasons, they have got too much building to do to get up there with Liverpool and Man City. For me, if he wants to win the European Cup then he has got a chance of winning it at Real Madrid.”
Kane has gone from strength to strength since breaking into the Tottenham first-team setup in the 2013, having also won the Premier League Golden Boot twice. Presently under Jose Mourinho, he has put in a lot of effort to regain his fitness and has again become a fearsome striker. His formidable partnership with Son Heung-min has taken the Premier League by storm this term.
Having added a different element to his game with his newfound playmaking abilities, as was evident against Leeds United last weekend, Kane’s stock is only on the rise. While Tottenham are on course to winning the Carabao Cup – their first piece of silverware in 12 years – they are still far off from a title challenge, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City a cut above the rest.
If there is anyone who can provide the spark for Tottenham and Kane to start winning trophies, it is serial winner Mourinho. However, with Karim Benzema aged 33 and Luka Jovic proving to not be a worthwhile successor, Real Madrid could dive into the market for a new centre-forward, making Kane a viable target.
Mourinho’s project at Tottenham has gained praise and delivered success, but it could be hard for the Englishman to resist a transfer to one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the scenario that they come calling for him. A move to Real Madrid could not only give him a clear shot at winning a league title but also challenge seriously for the UEFA Champions League.
A lot is riding on the 2020/21 season and the final results Tottenham achieve. If Spurs can add silverware to a rather empty trophy cabinet, they could tempt Kane to stay. However, if they do not win anything, it would be difficult to keep Kane at the club, especially if Real Madrid make a move. The 2021 summer transfer market is certainly one to keep your eyes on.
