Sevilla midfielder Joao Jordan has been identified as the latest target for Arsenal, who are set for a busy January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Arsenal have set their sight on Joan Jordan as they aim to bolster their midfield options in the upcoming January transfer window. The Sevilla midfielder is highly rated by coach Mikel Arteta, who is desperate to see his team get back on track following a disastrous start to the campaign.

Although Jordan reportedly has a £55 million release clause embedded in his contract, Sevilla are willing to listen to offers in the region of £32 million. It is something Arsenal are willing to pay, given the fact that the midfielder tops Arteta’s shopping list next month.

The Gunners’ interest in Jordan is also hardly surprising given the poor performances of Dani Ceballos. The on-loan Real Madrid midfielder, who extended his stay at Emirates in the summer for another year, has struggled with a lack of game-time and form. He has even fallen behind Mohamed Elneny in the pecking order this season.

As a matter of fact, recent reports from Italy suggest that Ceballos’ ongoing loan spell at Arsenal could be cut short in January, with the midfielder reportedly being courted by the Serie A giants like AC Milan and Juventus along with Inter.

Ceballos’ potential departure from Emirates should ideally pave the way for the Gunners to sign a new midfielder. Jordan, in that regard, makes a lot of sense, particularly due to his ability to carry the ball in midfield. He is blessed with quick feet, combined with an excellent positional sense, which means the 26-year-old can combine well alongside someone like Granit Xhaka or Thomas Partey.

Another appealing asset in Jordan’s game is his versatility. He can play anywhere across the midfield, thus giving Arteta more tactical choices at this disposal. In addition, the Spaniard’s tendency to thread long passes bodes well for the pacy attackers like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Hence, Jordan would be a tailor-made fit for Arsenal, although it is difficult to tell whether or not he can manage to adapt himself into the more physical nature of the Premier League. The midfielder’s £32 million price tag is also quite expensive given the state of the transfer market since the Coronavirus pandemic.

It will thus be interesting to see whether or not the Gunners shift their attention to someone else, especially having been linked with a move for Isco in January.
