Real Madrid are reportedly set to complete the capture of soon to be out-of-contract Bayern Munich David Alaba in the January transfer window.

According to Spanish publication Todo Fichajes, David Alaba will soon become a Real Madrid player. The Spanish giants are looking to close out a deal to sign the Austrian international from Bayern Munich, with Manchester United also named as a suitor in the report.

The report further iterates that David Alaba would prefer a switch to Real Madrid and that Los Blancos are preparing a contract that will see the Austrian international pocket €8 million every season. The reported contract offer will see Alaba stay at Real Madrid till 2024, at least.

David Alaba is widely considered as a superstar in world football and rightly so. The 28-year-old has had a successful career at Bayern Munich, playing in varied positions from left-back to left midfield to centre-back and even as a holding midfielder at times.

Amassing over 400 appearances for the senior Bayern Munich team, Alaba has established a legacy for himself at the Bavarian club, winning 25 trophies with the Bavarians. However, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2021, Alaba has refused to commit to a new deal and hence, drawn interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Manchester United could do with a player of Alaba’s calibre. The 28-year-old seems comfortable at centre-back now and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to recruit someone who can be Harry Maguire’s partner in central defence. Alternatively, Alaba can also serve as a replacement for Nemanja Matic in midfield.

For Real Madrid, David Alaba’s arrival could tighten a leaky defence. At central defence, Zinedine Zidane has four options at his disposal. However, Eder Militao is on the radar of Liverpool and could be on his way out in January. Alaba can fill in at centre-back while also taking over from Sergio Ramos in due time as the leader at the back.

The Alaba transfer saga has gone on since the summer. The Austrian international was rumoured to be closing in on an agreement with Chelsea before the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona entered the race. Now though, it seems Los Blancos are firmly in the lead, with Manchester United the only one left in the chasing pack as other clubs look elsewhere.
