Bruno Fernandes claims he wants to win every trophy on offer with Manchester United

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has claimed that he isn’t happy that he hasn’t won any trophy in his first year at the club.

Speaking to BT Sport, as relayed by Goal.com, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has insisted that he wants to win every trophy on offer with the club, having not lifted any silverware in his first year in England.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window earlier this year and has easily been the Red Devils’ best signing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. Indeed, Fernandes, since his arrival, has lifted the team to a whole new level, with his performance as well as his leadership on the field.

Fernandes played a key role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finishing the 2019/20 Premier League season in the third position, while he was also key in their semi-final runs in the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League. However, the Portuguese international has claimed that he is unhappy that the team did not win any trophies during this period.

“When I arrived, at the time it was the FA Cup and the Europa League, and we had the chance to get into the top four in the league. Unfortunately, we went out in two semi-finals but we achieved third place in the league. The only thing I’ve missed in this year is the trophies. I don’t have trophies for the club and I’m not happy about that,” he said.

Fernandes also added that he was enjoying his time at Manchester United, a club that he “always dreamed of playing for” and hoped to lead the team to trophies in the next year. “I hope 2021 can be better in that way,” the former Sporting Lisbon star said.

Since arriving at the club, Fernandes has been directly involved in 31 Premier League goals in just 28 games – that includes his goal and assist in the 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Saturday. That amounts to 52% of Manchester United’s league goals since his debut in February.

Given his impact and his current standing at the club, talks of a new bumper contract are doing the rounds. Manchester United are fourth in the Premier League table and have qualified for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. They are also in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. It remains to be seen if Fernandes is able to lead them to a trophy in 2021.
