Manchester United are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Celta Vigo to sign highly rated 16-year-old defender Stefan Bajcetic.

According to Spanish publication La Voz de Galicia, Stefan Bajcetic could soon be a Manchester United player. The Red Devils are in talks with La Liga outfit Celta Vigo for the young defender, with the report stating that the star could soon leave his club, labelling United as the ‘destination club’.

The report iterates that Bajcetic’s agent, Javier Villaverde is insistent on brokering a deal between the clubs, despite there being a predisposition or agreement between Manchester United and Celta Vigo for the 16-year-old’s transfer.

Stefan Bajcetic had an impressive season in the Celta Vigo youth setup in the 2019/20 season and saw himself being promoted to the Youth B side for the current campaign. Despite making just two appearances for Celta Youth B so far, Bajcetic’s exploits at the youth level seems to have drawn Manchester United’s attention.

The Red Devils have been on a recruitment spree as far as the youth setup is concerned, bringing in future superstars from all corners of Europe. The latest batch of signings saw Manchester United score some impressive scalps, adding the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Alvaro Fernandez and Marc Jurado from Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, among several other top names.

All three of the aforementioned names were revered within their respective academies as players with a bright future and have already made a number of appearances for the Under-18 side, with Alvaro Fernandez achieving a quick promotion and becoming a regular for the Under-23 team simultaneously.

By the looks of it, Bajcetic is a central defender, which is where Manchester United are lacking in options when it comes to their Under-18 squad. Willy Kambwala has joined in from Sochaux and become a regular in the said role.

However, there are only three other options at Neil Ryan’s disposal in the form of Rhys Bennett, William Fish and Bjorn Hardley – all of them are 17 and would be expected to either make the jump up or go out on loan next season.

The deal seems to be close, as per the report, with Villaverde the only obstacle right now. Manchester United have spent lavishly on youth players and the Premier League giants are unlikely to shy away from giving Celta Vigo a fair compensation in lieu of the years that Bajcetic has spent at the club.
