Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly intent on offloading Spanish midfielder Isco in the January transfer window.
According to a report from Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is keen on parting ways with playmaker Isco in the winter transfer window, despite claiming otherwise in his recent press conference.
The 28-year-old has been with Real Madrid since 2013, having joined from fellow Spanish outfit Malaga. Isco had been a key player for the Merengues under Carlo Ancelotti and was a regular in Zidane’s first stint at the club as well. Till date, he has featured 316 times for the club, scoring 51 times and setting up 54 more goals.
However, the Spanish international has fallen out of favour under the Frenchman in recent times. Isco was a peripheral figure in Real Madrid’s La Liga title triumph last season and has hardly been used regularly in the ongoing campaign as well.
So far, the 28-year-old has featured just nine times in all competitions this term, sitting out the important games against Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, while he has played just 13 minutes in the Champions League. His last league start came in the defeat to Cadiz when he was hooked off at half-time.
Zidane, though, speaking in his press conference ahead of last weekend’s game against Atletico Madrid, insisted that Isco very much remains a part of his plans. “I’m always going to have faith in these players. It’s true they haven’t played as much lately but they’re absolutely in my plans,” he said, speaking of Isco and Marcelo.
However, as per the aforementioned report, that is far from the actual case and the manager is intent on getting Isco off the books in the January transfer window. The Spanish playmaker, for his part, has indicated his desire to leave the club, with a reunion with former boss Ancelotti at Everton said to be of appeal to him.
Isco is contracted with Real Madrid till the summer of 2022. However, seeing how Zidane has been using him this term, it is quite clear that the 38-time capped Spanish international is clearly not a major part of the plans moving forward.
With things being as they are, there is a very good chance that the 28-year-old will be on his way out of the Spanish capital club once the January window is open for business. And there isn’t going to be any shortage of suitors for Isco, with Arsenal among the clubs lining up a swoop as well.
