Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil has reportedly been offered to Juventus multiple times in the past year over a possible move in a future transfer window.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Juventus have been offered the chance to sign Mesut Ozil as many as five times in the past year. However, the Bianconeri have no intention of snapping up the Arsenal outcast, whose future at the Emirates remains as uncertain as ever.

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 in a then-club record £42.5 million deal. Initially a big game-changer for the Gunners, Ozil’s fortunes and stock have plummeted dramatically in the last couple of years or so.

Ozil’s status as a regular first took a hit when Arsene Wenger retired and Unai Emery replaced him. Mikel Arteta did utilise him frequently in the first few months of his reign as the Arsenal manager, but the former German international has become a peripheral figure at the Emirates since football returned in England in June after the three-month coronavirus-enforced hiatus.

Now frozen out of the first-team squad by Arteta, Ozil has no future at Arsenal and seems to have played for the north London club for the 254th and final time. His next destination, though, could be an interesting one, with several clubs linked with the 32-year-old.

MLS outfit DC United seem to have the Arsenal outcast on their radar, with the player open to a move to Washington as well. Another club that have been linked with Ozil are Juventus, who have been offered the chance to snap up the veteran playmaker a number of times in the past year.

A possible interest in Ozil could be explained by the fact that Paulo Dybala faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium and has recently been linked with Manchester United again. While Ozil will not be a like-for-like replacement, his addition would bolster Andrea Pirlo’s creative options considerably.

However, the report also stresses that Juventus have no interest in signing the 32-year-old despite being offered the chance to do so as many as five times. The player’s hefty wages presently at Arsenal are a big reason why the Bianconeri have distanced themselves from such rumours.

What now remains to be seen is where Ozil’s career will take him next, with his time at Arsenal seemingly up and Juventus having no intention of making a move for him. For now, he remains on the fringes at the Emirates, awaiting his next move.

  1. Leave him for incoming coach at Emirates, he will make his great talent in the field for for arsenal but not in the bench seating
