Fred and Anthony Martial are set to return, but Edinson Cavani remains a doubt ahead of Manchester United’s fixture against Manchester City on Saturday.

Manchester United will be hoping to record their fifth consecutive win in the Premier League when they play hosts to Manchester City on Saturday evening. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to greet the return of two first-team players ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Fred is available for selection again after being suspended for the UEFA Champions League tie with RB Leipzig earlier this week. Another player back at Solskjaer’s disposal is Anthony Martial, who had missed the trip to Leipzig due to a minor muscular injury. However, Edinson Cavani is facing a race against time to turn out in his first Manchester Derby.

Solskjaer provided an update on Martial and Cavani while speaking to MUTV ahead of the visit of Manchester City. The Manchester United boss said, “Anthony will definitely be involved and Edinson has been on the grass today. But I’m not sure if he’ll make it. Apart from that, we’ve had a couple of days of recovery and we should be ready.”

Martial and Fred should be back in the starting lineup straightaway, with Solskjaer opting to revert to the 4-2-3-1 formation that he so trusts. The switch in formation means one of the five defenders that started against Leipzig will drop out when Manchester City pay Manchester United a visit on Saturday.

Alex Telles is likely to be the aforementioned defender, with Luke Shaw shifting to the left-back slot against Manchester City. On the opposite flank, Aaron Wan-Bissaka should start again despite being dreadful in the midweek European fixture. At the heart of the Manchester United defence, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are certainties, with David de Gea keeping his place in goal.Manchester United

Up ahead in midfield, Fred should have Scott McTominay as his partner in the double pivot. The duo will be tasked with keeping a lid on Manchester City’s creative output. Bruno Fernandes will be the advanced midfielder reprising the no. 10 role.

Martial will lead the line for Manchester United against Manchester City, with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood being the two wide men. Cavani, if fit, is only likely to make the bench and will be an impact substitute for the hosts.

Manchester United Predicted XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Martial
