Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, who is a target for Real Madrid, is reportedly keen on leaving the Ligue 1 side in the summer.

According to a report from Spanish publication AS, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of French teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga as the midfielder is seeking a summer exit from Rennes.

18-year-old Camavinga came through the youth ranks at Rennes and broke into the first-team setup towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign. However, it was the last season that put the youngster well and truly on the map, as he emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in Ligue 1, helping his club to a third-place finish.

Ever since, Camavinga has courted interest from the who’s who of Europe, with Real Madrid at the forefront. The Merengues had a quiet summer transfer window last time out owing to the financial impacts of coronavirus, coupled with the costs of renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, given their performances this season, it has become abundantly clear that there is an urgent need of injecting some fresh blood into the squad sooner rather than later. Central midfield is an area where Zinedine Zidane’s side will need to strengthen as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are not getting any younger.

In addition, Real Madrid lack any sort of cover for Brazilian enforcer Casemiro in the holding midfield role, due to which they suffered during his absence earlier this season. That is an issue that the club must address soon, with Camavinga emerging as a viable target for the role.

And, while Real Madrid’s pursuit of the Frenchman didn’t bear any fruit this past summer, their hopes of landing the 18-year-old have received a significant boost as the youngster is eyeing an exit from Rennes in the summer.

Camavinga has just eighteen months left on his current €4 million-a-season contract with the Ligue 1 side, meaning he will be entering the final year of his deal at the end of the season. And, the teenage prodigy has informed the club that he does not wish to renew his contract and is looking for a new challenge, as per the report.

Even though Camavinga will have just a year left on his deal in the summer, the report claims that the two-time capped French international will still command a transfer fee in the region of €60-€70 million – a significant outlay for any club in the current circumstances.

With Serie A champions Juventus also eyeing a swoop for the teenager, Real Madrid will have their task cut out to land him next summer. Nevertheless, the news that Camavinga is seeking an exit will come as a boost for the Merengues.
