Transfer News: Manchester United could land Paulo Dybala in potential Paul Pogba swap deal

Manchester United could reportedly land Paulo Dybala in a potential swap deal with Juventus which would see controversial midfielder Paul Pogba move the other way.

According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United could have the opportunity to sign Argentine international Paulo Dybala in a sensational swap deal with Juventus for wantaway midfielder Paul Pogba.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, rocked the boat in typical fashion earlier this week when he claimed that the midfielder’s time at Manchester United was over. The controversial super-agent then went on to add that the Frenchman wasn’t happy at Old Trafford, insisting that a January move away from the club could be on the cards.

Raiola’s comments are reported to have left the Manchester United hierarchy furious, leading to the possibility that the club might sever ties with the 27-year-old in the near future, as Pogba has just eighteen months left on his contract and has no intentions of penning a new deal.

Pogba had claimed last year that he was looking for a new challenge in his career, with Real Madrid emerging as a potential destination. However, it is being claimed that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France is hoping to return to former club Juventus, where he grew into a superstar, before re-signing for Manchester United in 2016.

The Bianconeri manager, Andrea Pirlo, is believed to be keen on strengthening his midfield unit, in spite of him boasting a plethora of options in the centre of the park. And having played alongside Pogba during the final years of his career, the Italian sees the Manchester United star as the perfect addition.

This has opened up an interesting avenue for Manchester United to potentially land Argentine star Paulo Dybala in a swap deal. The 27-year-old, who has been long heralded as one of the finest attackers in Europe, has struggled for regular game time under Pirlo, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Alvaro Morata and Dejan Kulusevski all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Indeed, Dybala has featured in just six Serie A matches for Juventus this term and is yet to score or assist a single goal. Recent reports had claimed that the Old Lady were actively looking to offload the forward in January, having offered his services to a host of clubs including the ‘Big Six’ of the Premier League.

Manchester United had tried to sign Dybala last year but a deal failed to materialise due to issues with regards to payments for third-party image rights. However, the current scenario might provide the Red Devils to land their man according to The Athletic.

Considering that Anthony Martial hasn’t been firing in the centre-forward role, adding a proven, quality operator like Dybala might appeal to Manchester United. With Pogba and Juventus both keen on a reunion and the Serie A champions willing to sell Dybala, there is a possibility of this deal taking place.
