Liverpool have been tipped to make a move for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who is also on the radars of arch-rivals Manchester United.
Speaking on BT Sport, as relayed by the Express, former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage has backed reigning champions Liverpool to make a swoop to sign England international Jack Grealish, also a target for Manchester United, from Aston Villa.
A product of the Aston Villa youth academy, Grealish has grown into the best player for the club over the past few years, while also establishing himself as one of the most sought-after footballers in England. Having helped the Midlands outfit to promotion, the 25-year-old played an integral role in them surviving the drop back to the second division last season.
And, the England international has made a scintillating start to the new season, racking up five goals and six assists in nine matches across all competitions, with Aston Villa punching well above their weight.
Grealish’s exploits over the past couple of years have not gone unnoticed. Manchester United had been credited with a serious interest in the Aston Villa captain and while no move materialised, it is claimed that the Red Devils remain keen on the 25-year-old, along with local rivals Manchester City.
And now, former Manchester United midfielder Savage has backed Liverpool to enter the fray for the signing of the Englishman, claiming that he would be an incredible signing for the club, even if he is likely to cost in the £100 million region.
“He has got to be £100 million in this transfer market. No doubt about it. He has got to be £100 million. Imagine him with better players around him as well. Imagine him in a Man City team or Liverpool team. Incredible,” Savage said, while doing punditry on BT Sport.
Liverpool, in spite of having had to deal with several roster issues, have made a strong start to the new season, sitting second in the league table following their 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. The Reds have a strong squad, which has been bolstered significantly with the arrivals of Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side could stand to benefit from signing someone like Grealish. The Aston Villa skipper has played on the left flank more often than not, but can slot in one the left side of a midfield three and essay a role similar to what Philippe Coutinho did at Anfield prior to his departure to Barcelona.
With Georginio Wijnaldum’s future at the club uncertain and Naby Keita failing to click, Klopp & co. could look at bringing in Grealish, who would add that creative element from midfield. Their current stature may well make them a more alluring project than Manchester United as well.
It is quite apparent that the 25-year-old has a very bright future in front of him and should he keep up performing at this level, it wouldn’t be long before Liverpool or either of the Manchester clubs come calling.
