Barcelona reportedly have no interest in re-signing academy graduate Adama Traore, who has grown frustrated with a lack of game time at Wolves.
According to a report from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are not considering the possibility of bringing back ex-academy ace Adama Traore from Premier League side Wolves.
The 24-year-old Traore spent his formative years at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy after having joined from L’Hospitalet. However, after a few sporadic appearances for the senior team, the winger left the club in search of regular first-team action, signing for Aston Villa in 2015.
Only a year later, he moved to Middlesbrough, where he became somewhat of a regular. However, it was at Wolves, whom he joined in 2018, where Traore well and truly burst onto the scenes as a star in the making. The Spanish winger impressed with his pace and power, thriving in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Traore enjoyed his most prolific campaign till date last term, racking up six goals and twelve assists in 54 games in all competitions. However, the 24-year-old has seen game time hard to come by in the ongoing season, with the manager preferring Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence on the flanks.
As a result, Traore has started just three Premier League games this term, which has led to him getting frustrated over the lack of opportunities, despite talks over a new contract going on with the club. This has led to speculations over his future at the club, with a number of clubs getting linked with a move for the winger.
Traore had been a target for Liverpool in the summer, however, the Reds might not be interested in a move now, having signed his former teammate Diogo Jota. Real Madrid and Barcelona, too, are clubs that have been credited with an interest in the Spanish winger, as per the aforementioned report.
However, it is being claimed that Barcelona are not in contention for the signing of the 24-year-old as the Catalan club deem the transfer ‘unfeasible’ at the moment. It is no secret that the Blaugrana are in a difficult position financially at present, which limited their summer spending as well.
And with manager Ronald Koeman intent on bringing in Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia in January, a move for a winger is unlikely to be high on his priorities even though teenage sensation Ansu Fati is facing an elongated spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury earlier this month.
As far as Traore’s situation is concerned, Wolves’ manager Nuno remains confident that he will sign a new contract with the club. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 24-year-old but a return to Barcelona, at this point of time, looks an unlikely prospect.
