Manchester United winger Daniel James has emerged as the latest target for Everton as Carlo Ancelotti looks to shore up his attacking options.

According to Football Insider, Everton have set their sights on Daniel James. The Manchester United winger has been identified as one of the potential candidates as Carlo Ancelotti hopes to add more reinforcement in the attacking department during the upcoming January transfer window.

It appears that the ex-Real Madrid boss has been quick to identify the attacking edge his team has lacked due to the absence of Richarlison, who had to serve a three-game suspension recently. As a result, the Toffees are keeping close tabs on Manchester United winger James, whose future at Old Trafford has come under the microscope following a disappointing start to the campaign.

Since his move from Swansea City last summer, the Welshman has failed to live up to the expectations at Manchester United. And this season, in particular, the youngster has fallen behind the likes of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order, having mustered only 179 minutes of league football.

It does not bode well for a player of his age, who needs constant game-time in order to continue his progress and development. That is where Everton could be an interesting destination as the Merseyside giants are clearly in need of reinforcements in the offensive unit.

Alex Iwobi was signed from Arsenal in a big-money move in the summer of 2019. Unfortunately, the Nigerian international has provided very little quality going forward, causing Everton to struggle in the absence of Richarlison while new signing James Rodriguez has also had a few fitness problems.

The addition of James, in that regard, should provide some healthy competition in the attacking department. The Welshman’s dynamic style of play also tunes in well with Ancelotti’s tactical philosophy, thus making the Manchester United outcast an ideal fit at the Goodison Park.

It is, however, fair to point out that James was courted by newly-promoted Leeds United in the summer. And although the Whites ended up securing the services of Rennes winger Raphinha, it won’t be surprising to see Marcelo Bielsa rekindle his interest in the Manchester United speedster in the upcoming January transfer window.

For Manchester United, the departure of the 23-year-old should create some space in the side for a potential new signing, although it remains unlikely that the Red Devils would want to offload James on a permanent deal.
