Transfer News: Manchester United’s £45 million loan-to-buy offer for Ismaila Sarr rejected

Manchester United have reportedly had their opening offer for Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr rejected by EFL Championship outfit Watford.

According to Telefoot, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United’s initial offer for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has been met with a firm rejection.

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Manchester United so far, with the club chasing the signing of Jadon Sancho all summer without any success. And, as a result, on the deadline day, they are left scrambling to bring in a new right-sided winger before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele has been mooted as a target, but the Red Devils seem to be keeping their options open with Watford’s Sarr also being considered as an alternative for the 20-year-old Sancho.

Sarr joined Watford last summer from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes. And even though the Hornets ended up getting relegated, the Senegalese speedster came out with a lot of credit, impressing in his debut season in England.

His performance against champions Liverpool in February earlier this year was a particular highlight, as he helped bring an end to the Reds’ unbeaten streak. The 22-year-old ended the 2019/20 campaign with six goals and six assists from 30 appearances across all competitions.

Linked with Liverpool for large parts of the summer, the Senegalese international has registered on the radars of Manchester United as well. And, as per the aforementioned report, the Red Devils had made an offer to secure the services of the winger, only to see it get rejected by the Hornets.

As per the terms of the bid made, Manchester United would sign Sarr on a season-long loan for 2020/21 with an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of £45 million.

However, Watford knocked back the offer right away and have insisted for the 20-time English champions to include a clause wherein the Hornets will be entitled a £25 million fee if Manchester United don’t end up signing Sarr on a permanent basis.

It is claimed that talks are still ongoing between the two teams and it will be interesting to see if a conclusion that satisfies both the parties is arrived at in the coming hours.

After a terribly slow start to the transfer window, Manchester United are likely to see a flurry of activity on the deadline day. Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles are expected to complete their respective transfers, while a winger is also likely to come through the doors before the deadline.
