Liverpool midfield ace Marko Grujic is reportedly on his way out of the club, with Southampton and West Ham United eyeing late loan swoop.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic is on the brink of sealing an exit from Anfield, with both Southampton and West Ham United lining a loan bid for the Serbian international.

Having started out at Red Star Belgrade in his homeland, the 24-year-old midfielder made the switch to Liverpool in 2016. However, he was never able to establish himself as a regular in the centre of the park for the Merseyside giants.

After a frustrating 18-month period during which he hardly featured, Grujic joined Cardiff City on loan in January 2018. Six months later, he moved to Germany, joining Hertha Berlin where he spent two years on loan, racking up 54 appearances in which he scored nine goals.

Back at Liverpool this summer, it was always expected that Grujic will be moved on once again, either on loan or permanently, considering the options in the centre of the park at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal. And even though, he has impressed in his two Carabao Cup appearances this term, most recently against Arsenal, he is now closing in on an exit from Anfield.

As per the aforementioned report, both Southampton and West Ham are eyeing a loan swoop for the Liverpool midfielder ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Saints lost former captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur this summer and are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. West Ham, meanwhile, are hoping to terminate Jack Wilshere’s contract, which would open up a slot in the midfield department, which they are hoping to fill with Grujic’s signing.

With the deadline looming large, there could be a flurry of exits from Anfield over the next 24 hours. Rhian Brewster has already left the club for Sheffield United, while fellow academy man Yasser Larouci is also on his way out with Leeds United strongly interested. And Grujic, too, could follow suit.

Despite being with Liverpool for four years, Grujic has made just 16 senior appearances so far, scoring and assisting one goal apiece. The 24-year-old still has three years left on his contract with the Premier League champions. So, he will be hoping that a strong campaign away on loan could offer him a chance to revive his career at Anfield.
