Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Bournemouth’s Welsh winger David Brooks this summer.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United have received a boost in their chase of David Brooks, as Bournemouth have claimed that they will not stand in the way of any player wanting to leave the club.
The 23-year-old Brooks has been with the Cherries since 2018, having joined from Sheffield United. Having enjoyed a fine debut season in the Premier League, the Wales international endured a difficult 2019/20 campaign due to injury issues.
Having missed almost the entirety of the recently concluded campaign, Brooks featured in just the nine matches post-lockdown, contributing with a solitary goal in the process. In spite of that, his stock hasn’t fallen with Manchester United taking a keen interest in the Welshman.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new winger, with Jadon Sancho being identified as their primary transfer target. However, things are not looking good on that front, with Borussia Dortmund’s transfer fee demands, coupled with the England international’s wage demands seem to have put an end to United’s pursuit of the 20-year-old.
Brooks, to that end, has been identified as a viable alternative for Sancho. And now, Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall has claimed that the club will not stand in the way of an exit, provided their valuation of the player is met.
Speaking to Bournemouth Echo, he said, “We as a football club have got a value of what we believe for our players. And if that value is met then players have got the opportunity to then discuss with whoever they need to discuss with and then make the decision they feel is right for them.”
“But first and foremost, it needs to be right for the football club and once it’s right for the football club then, as you’ve seen in the past, I don’t think it’s a club that will stand in anybody’s way providing that the club’s happy with and it meets the valuation of the player,” he went on to add.
As things stand, Bournemouth value Brooks at £40 million, which does seem a bit steep for a player who hardly featured in the season gone by. And, it remains to be seen if Manchester United are willing to meet that valuation.
Apart from Brooks, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are also looking at Juventus’ Douglas Costa as well as UEFA Champions League winner Kingsley Coman as potential alternatives for Sancho.
