Harry Wilson has emerged as a target for Leeds United, with the attacker tipped to leave Liverpool this summer.
According to The Sun, Leeds United are hopeful of a deal to sign Harry Wilson. The Liverpool winger is expected to leave Anfield despite a decent loan campaign at Bournemouth. In fact, the Reds might even have to settle for well below their £30 million valuation of the player last summer, partly due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
It has put Leeds United on alert, with the Whites reportedly readying a £15 million move for Wilson this summer. However, they could face stiff competition from Premier League rivals in Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Wilson’s loan spell at Bournemouth in this past season was a mixed bag and a bit unlucky, to say at the least. The Welshman enjoyed an excellent first half of the campaign, scoring six goals before the start of December.
Unfortunately, the winger lacked support and game-time as soon as Bournemouth’s overall performances took a significant nosedive since the turn of the year. He became a bit-part player under Eddie Howe and it wasn’t helped by the post-lockdown return of David Brooks, which further minimised his game-time.
Wilson mustered only one start in Bournemouth’s last nine matches while he has scored just one goal in this calendar year. But, he can still be an asset for a Leeds United team looking to strengthen their creative department.
Indeed, the 23-year-old should provide Marcelo Bielsa with a quality alternative to someone like Jack Harrison. But more importantly, it is his versatility of playing anywhere across the final third that could help the Argentine mastermind become more proactive towards squad rotations.
As for Liverpool, departure of Wilson is good riddance as the club looks to get rid of their fringe players. The Welshman, therefore, could follow Adam Lallana through the exit door, with Divock Origi also being linked with a move away from Anfield.
Their departures could create some space in the offensive unit, allowing Liverpool to fund a move for a better attacking option, who can help them compete with Manchester City and Chelsea. Besides, it is essential that Jurgen Klopp finds an able alternative to the wide offensive duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane this summer.
