Transfer News: Arsenal, Manchester United want Dennis Gyamfi

Crystal Palace move for Wilfried Zaha collapses, Leicester City close to signing him.

Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interesting in signing Dennis Gyamfi, who is now a free agent after his Leicester City contract expired.

According to a Leicester Mercury report, Dennis Gyamfi is being courted by Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal. The youngster was a part of Leicester City but has chosen to run down his contract and is now a free agent.

Despite being a free agent, Leicester will be due a compensation package labelled development fees as per the Tribunal should Arsenal or Manchester United end up signing Gyamfi. This results from the FA rules that govern the transfer of an academy player under the age of 24.

The 18-year-old Netherlands youth international never managed to break into the first-team squad despite being touted highly as a player for the future at Leicester. Even at the youth level, Gyamfi racked up just 11 appearances this season, with only one of them coming in Premier League 2.

Gyamfi might have been left frustrated at not even being promoted to a regular for the Under-23 or Reserves side, let alone getting a look in at the senior level. Henceforth, even though Leicester offered the 18-year-old a deal to extend his stay, the right-back chose to run down his contract and assess his options, which might have played out well since Arsenal and Manchester United are now interested.

Manchester United have been rumoured to be looking to cash in on Diogo Dalot. Should this happen, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would want to bring in a cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in addition to Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Arsenal are also looking to add a right-back to the squad to allow Ainsley-Maitland Niles to be played further up on the pitch. Keeping the budget restraints in mind, Gyamfi would be a valuable addition without costing much.

The fact that the 18-year-old will cost no more than six figures due to not having made his Premier League debut to date might be another reason Arsenal and Manchester United are taking a keen interest in the right-back.

There is also brewing interest from Rangers and Schalke while the report indicates that Gyamfi has been invited to a trial by Paul Clement-managed Belgian club Cercle Brugge. Gyamfi seems to have a lot of choices at hand and it will be interesting to see what he goes for in order to further his chances of making the grade as soon as possible.
