Real Madrid midfielder Oscar Rodriguez, who is currently on loan at Leganes, is a subject of interest from Wolves, Schalke and Lazio.
As reported by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid youngster Oscar Rodriguez, who is currently plying his trade on loan at Leganes, is attracting interest from Premier League outfit Wolves, Bundesliga club Schalke as well as Serie A title hopefuls Lazio.
A product of the Real Madrid academy, the 21-year-old made his senior debut back in November 2017, in a Copa del Rey clash against Fuenlabrada. That remains his only first-team appearance till date, with Rodriguez mostly being involved with the Castilla side.
In the summer of 2018, Real Madrid loaned him out to Leganes, where the midfielder has thrived. So far, he has made 60 appearances for his temporary club, 28 of which have come in the 2019-20 campaign. The 21-year-old has produced a return of 7 goals and 2 assists across all competitions over the course of the season.
Oscar will return to Real Madrid in the summer when his loan deal expires. However, he is expected to be moved on by manager Zinedine Zidane, although there is a likelihood that the club will include a buyback option in the deal – something that they have done frequently when selling youngsters in recent years.
His potential availability has put a number of clubs on high-alert, including Premier League club Wolves. The Midlands outfit have had a fruitful campaign so far and remain in contention for a top six finish in the English top-flight once the season resumes. So, it would bode well for the club to strengthen the squad if they are playing in Europe, along with domestic competitions.
However, Wolves will have to battle Serie A giants Lazio, who are also interested in Oscar Rodriguez. The Italian capital outfit have emerged as surprise title challengers for Juventus this season. However, the prospect of losing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is looming large, which would explain their interest in the Real Madrid starlet.
Along with Wolves and Lazio, German heavyweights Schalke are also keen on the Spanish Under-21 international. However, given that their finances have been hit hard due to the coronavirus crisis, they might be unable to meet Real Madrid’s asking price of €20 million for the 21-year-old.
Oscar has shown great potential during his loan spell at Leganes. However, given the wealth of options at Zidane’s disposal, a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu seems the best course of action for him to continue his development. It now remains to be seen if any of the three aforementioned clubs are able to land him this summer.
