Manchester United are monitoring Wissam Ben Yedder’s situation at AS Monaco, with the club in need to sell players to mitigate their financial struggles.

ESPN have reported that Manchester United are following Wissam Ben Yedder. The French international could be one of the many players AS Monaco are forced to sell due to their financial struggles and the Premier League giants are looking to take advantage of it by bringing the striker over to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been harrowingly linked with a move for a centre-forward for a while now. The rumours have accentuated due to Odion Ighalo’s contract situation, which could see him return to Shanghai Shenhua as early as the end of May, unless Manchester United find a solution to alter the loan termination date.

Marcus Rashford’s return to fitness will calm things down in the United camp, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would need to add another striker to support Martial, with the English international more influential playing on the left side of the attack.

Ighalo could cost Manchester United around €20 million as per earlier reports and while the Nigerian international has done his job well at Old Trafford so far, Solskjaer could prefer a move for Ben Yedder, especially if the Frenchman is available for a similar fee.

AS Monaco are having a tough time financially and as per ESPN, could have to sell as many as 30 players. Ben Yedder is a marquee player for the French club, who paid €30 million to sign him from Sevilla. Ben Yedder has held his end of the bargain, with 18 goals in the 2019-20 campaign, tied with Kylian Mbappe as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1, before the temporary suspension of football and the premature end of the French season.

Arguably, Ben Yedder could yield the most revenue for Monaco, which could force the club’s hand. Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Moussa Dembele lately, but their interest in Ben Yedder is not new. The Red Devils have been following the French international for a while and his skillset would make him an ideal target for Solskjaer’s United.

Manchester United are likely to be one of the few clubs that would retain the spending power despite the losses suffered amid the  current world situation and could use some of it to bail out AS Monaco while landing Ben Yedder in the process. A win-win for all parties.
