Barcelona are reportedly considering making a summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur starlet Juan Foyth.
According to a report from the Mirror, La Liga champions Barcelona are exploring the possibility of making a move for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Juan Foyth in the summer transfer window.
Foyth, 22, joined Tottenham in the summer of 2017 from Argentine outfit Estudiantes in an £8 million deal. Able to play at centre-back and as a defensive midfielder, the youngster had been tipped for a bright future at the club. However, he has been unable to establish himself as a regular at the North London outfit.
Till date, Foyth has made just 32 first-team appearances for Tottenham in almost three years at the club, scoring a solitary goal in the process. The ten-time capped Argentine international has featured just seven times in the 2019-20 campaign, with injuries and poor form hampering him.
There had been speculations surrounding Foyth’s future at the club in the January transfer window, but the club retained him. However, the 22-year-old could be on his way out in the summer, with Tottenham now ready to offload him.
In fact, the youngster has already been offered to several clubs, including Barcelona, who are now considering signing the 22-year-old ahead of the next season.
Barcelona are in need of reinforcements at the heart of the defence as the club are planning to offload Samuel Umtiti in the upcoming transfer window. The Frenchman has struggled with injuries for most of his tenure at Camp Nou and the club are considering selling him, in order to generate funds to sign their targets.
Along with Umtiti, there are question marks over the future of Jean-Clair Todibo. The youngster, who left the club to join Schalke on loan in January, has attracted interest from a number of other clubs in Germany. And he could be set to leave the Blaugrana on a permanent basis before next season.
If either of the two, or both end up leaving in the summer, Barcelona will need to sign a new defender. This has led them to consider a swoop for the 22-year-old Foyth. The Argentine himself recently hinted that he would be open to an exit in the summer in search of regular playing time, saying, “If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable.
“And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club. I would like to stay in Europe, all leagues have a high level. My wish is to play at the highest level as long as I can. The main thing is to play.”
Foyth still has two years left on his contract with Tottenham. But it is looking increasingly likely that the youngster will be on his way out this summer. However, it remains to be seen if he does end up securing a move to Barcelona.
