Barcelona and Real Madrid have thrown their hats in the ring to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who is a target for Manchester United.

According to a report from German publication BILD, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid have joined Manchester United in the high-profile pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

Since moving to Dortmund three years ago, Sancho has grown into one of the best wingers in Europe. The 20-year-old has been in terrific form this season, bagging 17 goals and 19 assists from 35 matches across all competitions.

A regular member of the England national team now, Sancho’s rise to the top hasn’t gone unnoticed with a number of top clubs across Europe lining up to sign him, with Manchester United one among them. The Red Devils have been chasing the attacker since last summer, but having failed to land him back then, they seemed close to sealing the deal this time out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has enjoyed a fine resurgence since the turn of the year, but there remain a few issues within the squad, such as the right-wing slot. And signing Sancho would have addressed that problem for years to come.

However, Manchester United’s pursuit of the youngster just got complicated as Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keen on securing Sancho’s services ahead of the next season.

Barcelona, despite being at the top of the La Liga table, have been well below their best in 2019-20. Over-reliance on captain and talisman Lionel Messi has been a major issue for the Catalans. And with the little magician not getting any younger, perhaps the time has come for the club to start eyeing for long-term replacements for him.

Moreover, Ousmane Dembele’s future at the club is surrounded by uncertainty after another injury-riddled season. His departure would open up a slot in Barcelona’s squad, making Sancho a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, are staring at a full-blown squad overhaul as Zinedine Zidane looks to get rid of the deadwood from the squad in the summer. The likes of Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz are all likely to be shown the doors at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, which would leave Real Madrid short on numbers.

Having invested heavily in Eden Hazard last summer, the club wants to add another high-profile wide player to the ranks next summer, especially if they are able to clear out some of the unwanted players. Sancho, in that regard, fits the bill perfectly.

Barcelona, though, might have the advantage in this three-way battle for the England international. Reports earlier this week claimed that Dortmund are eyeing Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati as a potential replacement for Sancho. And as per BILD, there could be a chance of the Catalans using the 17-year-old sensation in order to lure Sancho to Camp Nou.

With the race for Sancho heating up, it now remains to be seen where the talented winger ends up. One thing seems for sure though, he’ll not be a Dortmund player come next season.
