Real Madrid are keen on signing a new striker and have turned their attention towards Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

According to Evening Standard, Erling Haaland has become the latest player to be linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Borussia Dortmund star has reportedly been identified as a prime target for Zinedine Zidane as he looks to shuffle his offensive unit in the summer.

The Real Madrid camp is particularly upset with Luka Jovic’s failures. The Serbian has already been linked with a move to Napoli and it won’t be surprising to see the Spanish giants ditching him in the summer, in favour of a move for Haaland.

The Borussia Dortmund star apparently has a release clause of €75 million. It is, however, doubtful whether or not that clause can be activated in the summer. Haaland initially joined Dortmund in January for a fee of just €20 million.

Since then, the Norwegian has become a footballing sensation, having scored 12 goals in just 11 matches. Overall, he has netted a whopping 40 goals in 33 matches in all competitions, ten of which have come in the UEFA Champions League.

Haaland’s contributions in front of goal have rejuvenated the Dortmund attack, making them much more effective. And ideally, the Black and Yellows have improved a lot in the Ruckrunde. Moreover, the youngster’s impressive performances in the Champions League indicates his ability to perform at the highest level of football.

Contextually, it makes Haaland a much better option when compared to Jovic. The Serbian had only impressed in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt prior to his move to Real Madrid last summer. Hence, Los Blancos‘ interest in the Borussia Dortmund forward is certainly a viable one.

The towering striker could add a new element to the Real Madrid attack that has often over-relied on the services of Karim Benzema. He can link up with attackers in the final third, playing quick one-twos. But more importantly, the youngster can use his physique to keep hold of the ball as well as thriving in one v one duels.

Moreover, the 19-year-old can exhibit an incredible pace that can often take the defender by surprise, thus making him an effective outlet in the first line of press.

At the same time, however, it is unlikely that Haaland’s release clause of €75 million will be applicable in the summer. Reports in Germany have claimed that the striker’s release clause will only be active from 2021, meaning he will be tied to Dortmund beyond this upcoming summer transfer window.
