Austrian international David Alaba is considering his future at Bayern Munich, with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid showing interest.
German publication Bild claim Barcelona and Real Madrid have reignited their interest in David Alaba. The Austrian international is reportedly a summer target for the La Liga giants, with the two clubs interested in bringing the Bayern Munich superstar over to Spain for the 2020-21 season.
Bild have also expressed that Bayern Munich are looking to extend contracts of key players, David Alaba included. But, the Austrian is not fully convinced that he wants to extend his stay in Bavaria amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
David Alaba has become a staple name in Bayern Munich and among the fans in Bavaria. 20 trophies at the club later, Alaba is one of the established names in the club’s recent history. His versatility over the 9-year association with the club has helped Bayern Munich adjust to complex situations with ease.
But, with his current contract set to expire in 2021, Alaba is in no mood to extend his deal and is instead looking at the prospect of moving to another European giant, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on the 27-year-old.
Barcelona signed Junior Firpo in the summer of 2019 to support Jordi Alba. Their interest in Alaba perhaps, shows that they are ready to offload Alba or use Alaba’s versatility to fill positions in defence and midfield.
Real Madrid have similarly brought in Ferland Mendy. But, Marcelo has been linked with a move away from the club and Alaba could be the ideal replacement for the Brazilian, should he choose to leave in the summer.
For Bayern Munich, there isn’t much of a problem. The rise of Alphonso Davies has mitigated the need for a left-back. But, midfield remains a problem. The Bundesliga giants are reportedly willing to part ways with Corentin Tolisso and Javi Martinez, which would further deplete the options, especially in holding midfield.
David Alaba has done a commendable job in midfield whenever called upon and Bayern would want to retain the Austrian. But, the 27-year-old could choose to now further his career in a different league and accept a new challenge. Spain beckons!
